2A Region 3 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Broad Street extended the longest winning streak in 2A Region 3 this week by beating Coahoma County, 7-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Jaguars.
Kennedy took down Coahoma Agricultural 46-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Carnez Gant ran for 100 yards in the win.
The Hornets' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ladaris Johnson threw for 54 yards and Ricky Fleming had 35 yards receiving. jeremy Gant helped Kennedy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 19 yards.
Kennedy's Johnson and Fleming have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Johnson has thrown for 248 yards this season, while Fleming, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has seven catches for 135 yards. Greg Caston from Strayhorn leads the league in rushing with 966 yards.
The Mustangs' Caston needs only 34 yards against Sheldon Hodge's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Hornets take on Strayhorn. As it stands, Kennedy is in third, while Thomas Skinner's team is in first.
The Mustangs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,237 from 8,582. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 26-0 victory over West Tallahatchie last week.
