The Olympic Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 71-53 to Ardrey Kell. While losing is never fun, Olympic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 377th, while the Knights are ranked 77th).
CANNON DEBERRY and RANDY JOHNSON certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. DEBERRY dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while JOHNSON scored 18 points. DEBERRY is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. IAN TOMLINSON was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Ardrey Kell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brett Freeman led the charge by scoring 22 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Delani Hammonds, who scored ten points along with eight assists and four steals.
Olympic dropped their record down to 3-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ardrey Kell, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Olympic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Rams at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Harding University is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Ardrey Kell, they will head out on the road to take on the Cardinal at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
