Red Mountain is a perfect 10-0 against Westwood since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mountain Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Red Mountain's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Mesa 14-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mountain Lions.
Red Mountain let Saige Peters and Kayla Jones run wild. Peters scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Jones went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Ava Richardson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Red Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mesa only posted an OBP of .067.
Meanwhile, Westwood waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Monsoon with a sharp 25-10 victory. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Lauren Cooper was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Navi Brinkerhoff, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.
Red Mountain's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Westwood, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.
Westwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Red Mountain has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Westwood, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Red Mountain's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Red Mountain took their win against Westwood when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Mountain Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
