The Cardinal Huskies will challenge the Lakeside Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Cardinal turned things around against Kirtland on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 24-10 victory. Considering the Huskies' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Natalie Soltis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Soltis was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cardinal got a massive performance out of Adelyn Grant, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Grant has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Krebs, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases.
Cardinal hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kirtland struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Lakeside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They lost 16-10 to St. John. Even if the Dragons couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Jada Lavender made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Lucie Cole was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Lakeside's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Cardinal, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Cardinal took their win against Lakeside when the teams last played back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
