For the first time this season, University will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chaparral Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, University put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Connally as they made off with a 15-1 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Juan Guerrero, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Joseph Alvarado, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Chaparral didn't have quite enough to beat Harker Heights on Saturday and fell 17-16. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (11), the Bobcats still had to take the loss.
Kelvin Fuentes led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with six RBI and two doubles. Blake Belliveau was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
University is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
University beat Chaparral 5-2 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
