The Wellington Eagles will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Bennett Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wellington has eight straight victories, Bennett has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Wellington didn't have too much trouble with Platte Valley on the road as they won 26-7.
Wellington's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Cash Altschwager, who rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and Tanner Gray, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Altschwager hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Meanwhile, Bennett managed to keep up with Valley until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Bennett suffered a rough 48-24 loss at the hands of Valley. Despite 72 more yards than Valley, Bennett couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite their loss, Bennett saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aaron Driggs, who rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Austin Stiers, who gained 169 total yards.
Wellington's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. As for Bennett, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Wellington was dealt a bruising 58-14 defeat at the hands of Bennett when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Wellington have more luck at home instead of on the road?
