Cape Henlopen has gone a perfect 3-0 against Delmarva Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Vikings will take on the Royals at 4:15 p.m. Cape Henlopen is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Cape Henlopen is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Sussex Central, who was ranked 15th at the time (Cape Henlopen was ranked second). The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Golden Knights 4-3. The four-run effort marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Abby Marsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alivia Heers, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Ava Calciano was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Delmarva Christian posted their closest victory since May 7, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Ursuline Academy, sneaking past 7-6. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Taylor Lowe made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Eve Bohinski was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that she has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marykate Dougherty, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Delmarva Christian's record is now 3-4. As for Cape Henlopen, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
Delmarva Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cape Henlopen has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. It's a different story for Delmarva Christian, though, as they've only averaged .335. Will they be able to contain Cape Henlopen's hitters?
Cape Henlopen skirted past Delmarva Christian 5-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
