The Calais Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the Machias Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Machias took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Calais, who comes in off a win.
Calais will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Woodland, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 17-3 win on Friday. Considering the Blue Devils have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Isaac Downing was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Downing was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah White, who went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Shawn Lyons also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Narraguagus hit Machias with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Knights by a score of 8-7. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Calais, Machias also got a great game from a two-way player: Mickey Fitzsimmons. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Fitzsimmons was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Machias is 4-1 when Fitzsimmons posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brady Fergerson was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Denver Fergerson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Calais has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Machias, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Calais was able to grind out a solid win over Machias in their previous meeting on May 5th, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
