Maiden is 8-1 against Newton-Conover since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Maiden Blue Devils will look to defend their home field against the Newton-Conover Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. Maiden will be strutting in after a victory while Newton-Conover will be coming in after a defeat.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Maiden ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-34 victory over Lincolnton. The victory was just what Maiden needed coming off of a 49-9 loss in their prior contest.
Josh Stover was on fire: he rushed for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 73 yards and a touchdown. Kendall Roberts also helped out as he racked up 131 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Newton-Conover's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Bunker Hill, falling 48-21. Newton-Conover was down 45-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jordan Lineberger, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown. Lineberger is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last eight games he's played.
Maiden has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Newton-Conover, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6.
Everything came up roses for Maiden against Newton-Conover in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 47-13 win. Will Maiden repeat their success, or does Newton-Conover have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
