Gunnison Valley is 0-10 against Millard since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Gunnison Valley Bulldogs will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Millard Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Gunnison Valley is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Gunnison Valley came up short against Ben Lomond and fell 32-25. That's two games in a row now that Gunnison Valley has lost by exactly seven points.
Despite their loss, Gunnison Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Autumn Anderson, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and five blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Those five blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Linsi Hansen, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Millard was beaten by Beaver 61-32 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Millard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Beaver is ranked 18th).
Despite the loss, Millard had strong showings from Eliza Larsen, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds, and Caislee Lunt, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds. Lunt is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played.
Gunnison Valley's record now sits at 3-6. Millard's record is now 3-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Gunnison Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Millard struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 35.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Gunnison Valley took a serious blow against Millard in their previous meeting back in January, falling 64-28. Thankfully for Gunnison Valley, Kara Camp (who scored 15 points along with nine steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
