Lizzie O'Leary made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harley Worster, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brookelyn Cole, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Kamiakin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .852. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Richland hit Hermiston with a five-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs lost 13-3 to the Bombers.
Hermiston saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Virgil, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Kamiakin's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Hermiston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
Hermiston's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kamiakin has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Hermiston, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Kamiakin's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Kamiakin took their win against Hermiston when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
