This season hasn't been kind to the Carroll Academy Rebels, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They fell 75-68 to Central Holmes Christian on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Carroll Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while Central Holmes Christian is ranked 103rd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central Holmes Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than John Hudson Word, who scored 26 points. The match was Word's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was John Ward, who scored 23 points.
Carroll Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Central Holmes Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Winona Christian the next time they take the court. Central Holmes Christian will head out to face Winona Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Carroll Academy will host them at 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
