The Wickenburg Wranglers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were dealt a 56-26 defeat at the hands of Camp Verde. While losing is never fun, Wickenburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Camp Verde is ranked 94th).
Several Wranglers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Timber Wimberly, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Wimberly has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Tylee Buchert was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
It was another big night for Rachel Roderick, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds for Camp Verde. Roderick hasn't dropped below four steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Wa'siiva Lewis, who scored ten points.
Wickenburg has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Camp Verde, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-8.
Wickenburg will head out on the road to take on Northwest Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Northwest Christian's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Wickenburg has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. Camp Verde will take on Chino Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Chino Valley is coming into the contest with five straight losses on the road, meaning Camp Verde will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
