After a string of six wins, the Davenport Broncos's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against Central, falling 74-43. While losing is never fun, Davenport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Central is ranked 97th).
When it comes to explaining why Davenport lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sorayah Emilien. Despite the final result, she scored 31 points. That was a full 72.1% of Davenport's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was LOVELY GABRIEL, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points GABRIEL has scored all season. Another player making a difference was AQUNAIS WEST, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Davenport's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Davenport will take on Lake Wales at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Wales is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. As for Central, they will be playing at home against South Fork at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Fork comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
