South Kitsap has gone 8-1 against Bethel recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wolves will face off against the Bison at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
South Kitsap was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Spanaway Lake on Thursday. The Wolves blew past the Sentinels 11-2. The Wolves not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2025 (when they won 16-3).
Maleah Sawyers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, South Kitsap let Liz Desilets and Aubrey Dunham run wild. Desilets went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Dunham went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was Desilets' first of the season. Nanea Nagatoshi was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two RBI.
South Kitsap was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Bethel came into Friday's contest having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Spanaway Lake with a sharp 14-4 win on Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bison's hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Sophia Hutchins made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Hutchins was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Penelope Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ella Makepeace, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Bethel's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for South Kitsap, their record is now 2-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Kitsap has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bethel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Kitsap beat Bethel 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
