Grafton and Elkins are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Grafton Bearcats will welcome the Elkins Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Grafton barely beat Lincoln the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went Grafton's way against Lincoln on Thursday as Grafton made off with an 11-1 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Noah Fletcher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fletcher was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Chace Kinsey was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. John Gouzd was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Elkins had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They never let Notre Dame get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Thursday. The Tigers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Jacob Shiflette, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braden Cooper, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Elkins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Notre Dame only posted a batting average of .167.
Grafton skirted past Elkins 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will Grafton repeat their success, or does Elkins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
