Basketball Recap: Reeves Takes a Loss

Reeves was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 62-61 heartbreaker at the hands of the Huntington Red Devils. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Raiders came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 85th in Louisiana, while the Red Devils are ranked 1174th in Texas).

Carter Guillory and Christian Williams certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Guillory posted 21 points and five rebounds, while Williams had 13 points and eight assists. The contest was Guillory's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Hakeem Jenkins was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Reeves smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Reeves' loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Huntington, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-16.

Reeves will be playing in front of their home fans against Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Huntington, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 49-22 defeat against Evadale on the 28th.
