Softball Recap: Chelsea Wins High-Profile Game Against Helena

On Thursday, Chelsea faced Helena in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Chelsea Hornets narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Helena Huskies 8-7. The Hornets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Huskies, too.

The team relied heavily on Caroline Brown, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Sydney Carroll was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Chelsea pushed their record up to 14-8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Helena, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-8-2.

Looking ahead, Chelsea will take on Good Hope in a tournament on Monday. Good Hope will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Chelsea surely won't give up without a fight. Helena will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Pelham at 4:30 p.m. on April 2nd.
