Basalt is 2-8 against Aspen since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit  on Wednesday. The Basalt Longhorns will head out on the road to  square off against  the Aspen Skiers at 7:00  p.m. Basalt is no doubt hoping to put an end to  a three-game streak of away losses.
 Last Saturday, Basalt came up short against Coal Ridge  and fell  53-46.
 Basalt's  loss came about despite a quality game from  Luke Williams, who  dropped  a double-double on 20 points and ten  rebounds. It was the first time this season that  Williams  scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was  Wyatt Loomis, who  scored six points along with five  assists.
 Meanwhile, Aspen strolled past Rifle with  points to spare on Saturday, taking the game  57-41. Given Aspen's advantage  in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings  (they are ranked 54th, while Rifle is ranked 249th), the result  wasn't entirely unexpected.
  Tommy Franceschi continued  his habit of posting crazy stat lines,  scoring 25 points.  Kristo Klavins was another key contributor,  scoring 12 points.
 Basalt has  traveled a rocky road recently having  lost five of their last six contests,  which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record  this season. As for Aspen,  the  win  made it two in a row for them and  bumps their season record up to 17-4.
This contest  is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor:  Basalt  have been smashing the glass this season,  having  averaged 24.8  rebounds per game. However, it's not like Aspen struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 26  rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
 Basalt was dealt a bruising  51-23 defeat at the hands of Aspen when the teams last played  back in January. Can Basalt avenge their  defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
