Basketball Recap: Maddex Moreno's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Elk over Rose Hill

West Elk was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rose Hill Rockets. The Patriots were up 17-2 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddex Moreno, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 19 points. The contest was Moreno's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Kase Kill was another key player, putting up eight points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.

Leading Rose Hill to victory were Myer Mcnaul and Zander Ford. Mcnaul posted eight points and three steals, while Ford went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds. Ford is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Trayton Allison-Hill was another key player, posting four points.

West Elk's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Rose Hill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.

West Elk will look to defend their home court on January 10th against Bluestem at 7:00 p.m. As for Rose Hill, they will square off against Wellington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
