Garces (Bakersfield, Calif.) beat Highland (Bakersfield, Calif.) 47-6 while riding the arm of
Jake Pavletich, who tossed five touchdown passes.
After taking the lead on a Pavletich touchdown pass to
Jack Lundy in the first quarter, the Rams led 27-0 at the half.
Garces grew its lead to 34 points entering the fourth quarter. GHS scored two times in the third, including once on a Pavletich touchdown pass to
Dominic Frasch.
Pavletich and Lundy teamed up to form a dynamic passing combination. Lundy caught four touchdowns and Pavletich threw five. Lundy has now caught four touchdowns this season, while Pavletich has thrown seven.
Highland's only touchdown came on a 94-yard kick return by John Stanley in the third quarter.
The Rams entered the contest giving up 28.8 points per game this year. Garces held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Scots above the 2.4 points it had been averaging per game.
The loss comes after Highland defeated Mira Monte 28-13 last week. The win brought Garces' winning streak to three games.
Garces (4-2) goes up against North in a Southeast Yosemite game matchup next week, while Highland (1-5) locks horns with Tehachapi also in a Southeast Yosemite game.
