AAAAAA Region 7 recap October 1, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 7 this week, Peachtree Ridge beat Habersham Central 49-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Lions.
Duluth was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to seventh in the league. The Wildcats vanquished Meadowcreek 34-7 earlier in the week.
Duluth's dynamic duo of Thad Bell and Khalil Newton proved to be unstoppable against the Mustangs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bell threw for 257 yards and 4 touchdowns and Newton had 117 yards receiving. Devin Terry helped Duluth's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 104 yards.
He went 15-29 with 0 interception.
On the heels of Chance Thrasher and Jordan Ellis, Peachtree Ridge has had great success on offense. Thrasher is tops in the league in passing with 971 yards, while Ellis has rushed for 654 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Jason Conner's team's Terry, with 371 yards on 26 catches.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Collins Hill and Mark Fleetwood's team. The Eagles enters the game ranked 24th in the state, while the Lions ranks eighth.
Two of the top units in AAAAAA Region 7 will face off this week when Peachtree Ridge takes on Collins Hill. The Lions' offense has scored 186 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Kevin Reach's team has allowed only 29 on the year.
Peachtree Ridge took down the Raiders 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Thrasher threw for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns during the win.
