Baseball Recap: Coventry Finds Playoff Glory Versus Immaculate

With a playoff win on the line, Coventry rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Immaculate Mustangs as they made off with a 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Collin Harrington and Jake Roberts did most of the damage at the plate: Harrington went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Roberts got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Roberts a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Siena, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Coventry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Coventry and bumps their season record up to 14-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Immaculate, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Coventry will challenge Shepaug Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. Immaculate does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
