After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Clear Springs (League City, Texas) held on for a 38-31 victory over
Clear Brook (Friendswood, Texas) on Saturday. The difference for the Chargers was
Zach Cripps thew a touchdown to
Matt Wymyczak.
The Chargers led 31-17 at halftime, but the Wolverines recaptured the lead on a touchdown with 2:00 left in the third. Clear Springs grabbed hold of the lead when Cripps thew a touchdown to Wymyczak with 8:00 to go in the fourth quarter, and never relinquished it.
CS's Cripps scored two touchdowns on the ground in the victory.
Derek Simmons made a difference for Clear Brook. The junior running back ran for one touchdown.
The League City school's standout player in the win was Cripps. He threw two touchdowns.
The Chargers also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 54-13.
The loss comes after Clear Brook defeated College Park 20-17 last week. With the win Clear Springs extended its winning streak to three games.
Clear Springs (3-2) goes up against Brazoswood in a 5A Region III District 24 game matchup next week, while Clear Brook (1-4) locks horns with Clear Lake also in a 5A Region III District 24 game.
