The Northfield Nighthawks will head out on the road to square off against the Denver East Angels at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Northfield will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.
Last Wednesday, Northfield made easy work of Rangeview and carried off a 15-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jackson Taylor looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Eli Jackson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Peter Worth, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Northfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .654. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, while it was Denver East who put the first runs on the board on Monday, it was Eaglecrest who put up more. The Angels took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raptors. The Angels have struggled against the Raptors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Denver East saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Lohmeyer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Northfield's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Denver East, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Denver East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Northfield came up short against Denver East when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 20-16. Can the Nighthawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
