The Community Baptist Christian Cougar's road trip will continue as they head out to face Portage Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Portage Christian took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Community Baptist Christian, who comes in off a win.
Even though Community Baptist Christian has not done well against Indiana Christian Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Community Baptist Christian came out on top against Indiana Christian Academy by a score of 64-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Community Baptist Christian can attribute much of their success to Layne Cook, who scored 26 points along with five assists, and Jay Clifton, who scored 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Clifton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Daviea Jones, who scored two points along with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Portage Christian, who are still winless after their 16th match. They were beaten by Victory Christian Academy 91-31 last Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Portage Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 457th, while Victory Christian Academy is ranked 120th).
Community Baptist Christian's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-5. As for Portage Christian, their defeat was their 19th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-16.
Everything came up roses for Community Baptist Christian against Portage Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 75-24 win. With Community Baptist Christian ahead 48-11 at the half, the match was all but over already.
