The Spearfish Spartans lost against the Mitchell Kernels back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The match between Spearfish and the Kernels wasn't particularly close, with the Spartans falling 59-45. Spearfish has not had much luck with the Kernels recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Spearfish's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bennett Kortan, who scored ten points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Seth Hamilton, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Spearfish now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Mitchell, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spearfish and the Scoopers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sturgis Brown is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Mitchell, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Aberdeen Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
