Othello is 9-1 against Grandview since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The two teams will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 11:00 a.m. The timing is sure in Othello's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Grandview has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Othello's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Prosser.
Aiden Garza tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rjay Garza, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Grandview came up short against Ephrata on Saturday, falling 13-6.
Aiden Mendoza put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Mendoza wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ivan Mendoza, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Grandview's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Othello, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Grandview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Othello hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .451. It's a different story for Grandview, though, as they've only averaged .182. Will they be able to contain Othello's hitters?
Othello took their win against Grandview in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Greyhounds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
