Morse and Oceanside are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Shipbuilders will square off against the Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Morse is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Morse blew Gray-New Gloucester out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Gray-New Gloucester got their revenge. The Shipbuilders fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 7-5.
Oscar Gallant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, Collin Verrill made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Couture, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.
Oceanside not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 14, 2025 (when they won 15-3). They put the hurt on Winslow with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Mariners' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Levi Philbrook was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Grady Gerets also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Oceanside hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
The win got Oceanside back to even at 2-2. As for Morse, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Oceanside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Morse has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Oceanside, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Morse's sizable advantage in that area, the Mariners will need to find a way to close that gap.
Morse was able to grind out a solid victory over Oceanside in their previous matchup back in June of 2025, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Shipbuilders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
