Basketball Recap: Sutter Skates Past Dixon with Ease

Sutter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 74-45 victory over the Dixon Rams. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Huskies' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Rams are ranked 658th).

Sutter's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izzy Bhatti, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Bhatti's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Troy Bowens, who shot 67% from the field en route to 15 points and seven boards.

Sutter was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dixon only racked up eight.

Despite the loss, Dixon still got an impressive performance from Jamison Abrenica, who went 8-for-16 to rack up 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Abrenica is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Brody Stake was another key player, shooting 63% from the field on his way to 11 points.

Sutter's victory bumped their record up to 20-6. As for Dixon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-12.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sutter will take on rival Rio Linda at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Dixon is set to challenge their familiar foe El Camino at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Abrenica and Jean-Claude (JC) Tshiunza.
