Southlake Carroll has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Frenship Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Southlake Carroll had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 70-0 victory over Boswell. The result was nothing new for Southlake Carroll, who have now won ten contests by 25 points or more so far this season.
Southlake Carroll's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Graham Knowles, who threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Angelo Renda was another key contributor, rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Frenship came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Eastwood 87-58 on the road. Given Frenship's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Eastwood is ranked 180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Hudson Hutcheson and Evan Minjarez. Hutcheson had a great game and threw for 507 yards and nine touchdowns while completing 92.9% of his passes. Meanwhile, Minjarez was balling out in the loss, rushing for 297 yards and five touchdowns, while also throwing for 271 yards while completing 80% of his passes.
Southlake Carroll pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 44.23 points. As for Frenship, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Everything came up roses for Southlake Carroll against Frenship in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 69-14 victory. Will Southlake Carroll repeat their success, or does Frenship have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
