It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Rye Garnets had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They strolled past Port Jervis with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. The victory was familiar territory for Rye who now have eight in a row.
Rye was led to victory by AJ Miller and Chris Iuliano. Miller threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, while Iuliano rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Port Jervis to a paltry 240 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Rye's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out five times before it was all said and done. Port Jervis' QB won't forget Charles Saurack anytime soon given Saurack sacked him twice.
When it comes to explaining why Port Jervis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anthony Theodore. Despite the final result, he gained 147 total yards and two touchdowns.
Rye's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Port Jervis, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
Rye is on the road again on Saturday and play against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk at 3:00 p.m. on November 25th. Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Port Jervis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
