Plains is 1-9 against Sundown since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Plains Cowboys will head out on the road to face off against the Sundown Roughnecks at 6:00 p.m.
Last Friday, Plains was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 51-50 to New Home. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Plains in their matchups with New Home: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Sundown ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Tahoka 37-35. The win made it back-to-back wins for Sundown.
Allie McCormick was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Sundown's points. Camry Jourden was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 12 rebounds and nine steals.
Plains' loss dropped their record down to 20-5. As for Sundown, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season.
Everything went Plains' way against Sundown in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as Plains made off with a 64-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Plains since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
