Deltona and Taylor are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2015, but likely not for long. Deltona will be playing in front of their home fans against Taylor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Deltona is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since February 21st on Friday. They fell just short of Umatilla by a score of 5-3. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Deltona got a good showing from Evan Grove, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, Grove didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.
On the hitting side, Deltona saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yandiel Torres, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Torres has posted since back in February. Noah Lochiatto was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Taylor had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 13-1 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
Peyton Fender spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Ramos, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Taylor is undefeated when Ramos posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Drew Moyer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Taylor pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Deltona, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Deltona has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Taylor struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Deltona's way against Taylor in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Deltona made off with an 11-4 victory. Does Deltona have another victory up their sleeve, or will Taylor turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
