Softball Recap: Aledo Drops Highest Score of Season Against Saginaw

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Aledo). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Saginaw Rough Riders a 20-0 shutout on Friday. The Bearcats have beaten the Rough Riders the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rough Riders has come to flipping the script.

RYLEE MARX made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over 5.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, KELLYN OVERTURFF was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of GRACE HEATH, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Aledo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.

Aledo pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Saginaw, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-22.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aledo will face off against Boswell at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pioneers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Bearcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Saginaw, they will challenge Chisholm Trail at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
