The Eustis Panthers's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Discovery Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Eustis has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 728 points over their last 11 matchups.
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Eustis can now relate to. They fell just short of the Buffalo by a score of 70-68. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Eustis in their matchups with The Villages Charter: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite their defeat, Eustis saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Anthony Hines, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Timothy Key, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Eustis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Villages Charter only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Discovery unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Highland Prep. While losing is never fun, Discovery can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while Lake Highland Prep is ranked 28th).
Eustis' loss dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Discovery, their loss dropped their record down to 20-6.
Eustis ended up a good deal behind Discovery when the teams last played back in December of 2021, losing 58-44. Thankfully for Eustis, Tray'von Osborne (who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
