Baseball Recap: Southern Sets Scoring Season-High Against Fairdale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern). Everything went their way against the Fairdale Bulldogs on Thursday as Southern made off with a 13-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Richard Hernandez made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Southern is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5 otherwise. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Bronson Taylor Jr was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Liant Perez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Southern pushed their record up to 4-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fairdale, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, Southern will venture away from home to square off against Fern Creek at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southern is facing Fern Creek at the right time seeing as Fern Creek is stuck on a three-game losing streak. We've got a battle between Bulldogs coming up. John Hardin has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.25 runs per game on average), something Fairdale will no doubt try to take advantage of.
