The Sam Houston Texans will head out on the road to challenge the Haltom Buffalos at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sam Houston has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5.
Last Friday, Sam Houston was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-50 to the Warriors. While losing is never fun, Sam Houston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 724th, while the Warriors are ranked 179th).
Despite the defeat, Sam Houston saw an underclassman step up: Harlem Hayes scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hayes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Terry Brock, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Haltom unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 65-56 to Bowie. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the defeat, Haltom got a solid performance out of Kuol Atak, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Atak has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Baron Smith jr, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Sam Houston has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 17 of their last 18 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-24 record this season. As for Haltom, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-9.
Sam Houston might still be hurting after the 81-60 loss they got from the Buffalos in their previous matchup back in January. Can Sam Houston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
