On Friday, the Roosevelt Roughriders faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Roosevelt fell 68-55 to Coolidge. Roosevelt has struggled against Coolidge recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Josslyn Derricott was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds for Coolidge. The contest was Derricott's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds and four blocks.
Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Coolidge, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.
Roosevelt's road trip will continue as they head out to face Jackson-Reed at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th. Hopefully Jackson-Reed focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 38 last Friday. As for Coolidge, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Banneker at 5:30 p.m. on January 8th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Banneker is ranked fifth, while Coolidge is ranked tenth).
