Estacado hasn't had much luck against Big Spring recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Matadors will be playing at home against the Steers at 5:00 p.m. Estacado has given up an average of 16.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Estacado is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 18th straight game on Tuesday. They lost 18-3 to Lake View. That's two games in a row now that the Matadors have lost by exactly 15 runs.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Big Spring made sure to put some runs up on the board against Liberty on Tuesday. The Steers blew past the Patriots 18-4. The result was nothing new for the Steers, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Alexa Ontiveros was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Monse Holguin looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk).
Back at the plate, Analia Hinojosa and K Speck did most of the damage at the plate: Hinojosa went 3-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs, while Speck went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases Hinojosa has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Elena Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Big Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Big Spring now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Estacado, their loss dropped their record down to 3-18.
