The Thornton Wildcats and the Kenwood Broncos (ranked 60 and 55 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile match. Thornton came out on top against Kenwood by a score of 52-45 on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Thornton also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2022.
Thornton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chase Abraham led the charge by scoring 20 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Abraham has scored at least 25% of Thornton's points. Another player making a difference was Morez Johnson, who scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds.
Thornton's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Kenwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thornton will take on Rich Township at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rich Township has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 303 points over their last five matchups. As for Kenwood, they will be playing at home against Lindblom at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lindblom knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Kenwood likes a good challenge.
