Alcorn Central and Pine Grove are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Alcorn Central Bears will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Pine Grove Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Alcorn Central will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
Last Monday, the stars were shining brightly for Alcorn Central in a 52-33 victory over Biggersville. Given Alcorn Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Biggersville is ranked 98th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Pine Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Friday. They fell just short of Ashland by a score of 60-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Alcorn Central's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Pine Grove, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.
Alcorn Central beat Pine Grove 48-38 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Pine Grove's Lana Rowland, who scored 26 points. Now that she won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Alcorn Central to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
