Basketball Recap: Middletown Takes a Loss

Middletown lost against Mason back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Middletown Middies were outmatched by the Mason Comets and fell 71-38. While losing is never fun, the Middies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Comets are ranked seventh).

Middletown's loss came despite strong showings from Leila Johnson and Jamia Jones. Johnson almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, while Jones dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. Johnson has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played.

Mason's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Parrish, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten assists. The dominant performance also gave Parrish a new career-high in steals (seven). Taylor Stanfield was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Middletown's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Mason, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Middletown wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 72-39 defeat against Lakota East on the 15th. As for Mason, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-30 win against Fairfield on the 15th.
