Softball Game Preview: Carroll Patriots vs. Greeneview Rams

The Carroll Patriots will venture away from home to take on the Greeneview Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Carroll took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Bishop Fenwick 12-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Patriots as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Greeneview came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against the Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since April 22, 2024.

Mya Simpson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rylie Battista, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Greeneview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Greeneview's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Carroll, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-8.

Carroll skirted past Greeneview 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
