Bellwood-Antis and Juniata Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bellwood-Antis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Bellwood-Antis came up short against Bedford and fell 7-4. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cam Swogger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Juniata Valley waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Blue Pirates 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Hornets have posted against the Blue Pirates since April 25, 2019.
Kyler Spurlin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Juniata Valley is 6-1 when Spurlin allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Spurlin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Logan Harpster and Ethan Scalia did most of the damage at the plate: Harpster went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Scalia got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Harpster has posted since back in March.
Juniata Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Bellwood-Antis, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Everything went Bellwood-Antis' way against Juniata Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Bellwood-Antis made off with a 16-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
