WEST, Texas -
China Spring (Texas) took an early lead against
West (Texas) and held on for a 42-23 victory on Saturday.
The Cougars put up 14 points in the opening frame. China Spring scored on a
Clark Barlow touchdown run and a touchdown run by Barlow.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Barlow in the first quarter, CS was up 28-3 at the half.
Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at 25.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Cougars came away with a 63-20 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for China Spring, which was coming off a 43-40 defeat at the hands of La Vega in its previous game. The win broke China Spring's two-game losing streak. The loss was the third in a row for the Trojans.
West (1-6) will play a 3A Region III District 17 game against La Vega next week, while China Spring (5-2) will take on Connally also in a 3A Region III District 17 game.
