The Sedgwick County Cougars waltzed into their match on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They enjoyed a cozy 49-30 win over Wiggins. Given Sedgwick County's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Wiggins is ranked 100th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Sedgwick County to victory were Lainee Nein and Abigail Dille. Nein dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds, while Dille scored 27 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dille has scored all season. Keyana Ehnes was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Despite the loss, Wiggins still got an impressive performance from Riley Hunt, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tyleigh Fehseke, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wiggins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sedgwick County only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Sedgwick County pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Wiggins, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-7.
Sedgwick County and Leyton will face off on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Wiggins, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Prairie at 2:30 p.m. on January 27th. Prairie's defense has only allowed 28.4 points per game this season, so Wiggins' offense will have their work cut out for them.
