The Pace Vikings will be home for the holidays to greet the Lopez Lobos at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pace will be strutting in after a victory while Lopez will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Pace was able to grind out a solid victory over Porter, taking the game 41-32. The victory was just what Pace needed coming off of a 68-13 loss in their prior contest.
Pace's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kayla Cavazos led the charge by scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her. Andrea Salgado was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 55 points the game before, Lopez were a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 43-22 defeat at the hands of Veterans Memorial. While losing is never fun, Lopez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 759th, while Veterans Memorial is ranked 267th).
Pace's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-16. As for Lopez, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Things could have been worse for Pace, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-36 loss to Lopez in their previous matchup back in January. Can Pace avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
