Fort Morgan is a perfect 6-0 against Alameda since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. Fort Morgan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Alameda is facing Fort Morgan at the wrong time: Fort Morgan suffered their first home loss of the season on Wednesday and they're likely out for redemption. They lost 15-4 to the Roughriders.
Fort Morgan saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samson Ortega, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Riley Elrick was another, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Alameda waltzed into their match on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 24-1 margin over the Huskies. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.
Cesar H made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Ivan Baca was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Angel Arroyo, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Alameda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Alameda's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Fort Morgan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fort Morgan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Alameda struggles in that department as they've averaged .607. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fort Morgan took their victory against Alameda in their previous meeting back in April of 2018 by a conclusive 27-3 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
