The Cathedral Fighting Irish struggled with assists on Thursday (the Center Grove Trojans had 900% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cathedral received a tough blow as they fell 53-37 to Center Grove. While losing is never fun, Cathedral can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Center Grove is ranked seventh).
Several Fighting Irish players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tianna Guy, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Catherine Cline, who scored 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Center Grove to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rachel Wirts, who scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lilly Bischoff, who scored 11 points along with 7 assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Cathedral and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Center Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Cathedral will play host again and welcome Zionsville, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Zionsville is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Center Grove, they will square off against Plainfield at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
